The Wonderful Company, one of the most philanthropic companies in the United States, is proud to announce the expansion of the Wonderful Community Scholarship program to support first-generation students in the Central Valley.
The program is expanding to serve more students in Wasco and Shafter, and is adding two new schools: Avenal and Firebaugh. In Firebaugh, the scholarship will be offered in partnership with NFL MVP and Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen. Allen, a fourth-generation farmer who grew up in Firebaugh, recently partnered with Wonderful® Pistachios as the brand’s new spokesman and will be the star of a fall commercial campaign.
Funding for the Wonderful Community Scholarship program is made possible by The Wonderful Company, its co-owners Lynda and Stewart Resnick, and their foundation.
“The majority of our Wonderful Education Scholars, 90% of whom identify as first-generation, cite finances as one of the biggest barriers to pursuing a college education,” said Andy Anzaldo, chief operating officer of corporate social responsibility at The Wonderful Company. “At Wonderful, we believe that with the right tools, every student can
succeed not only in pursuing higher education but in exploring new pathways toward professional and economic opportunities.”
Students accepted into the program will receive support with their college applications and up to $12,000 over four years of college, depending on where they choose to attend.
The Wonderful Community Scholarship program is part of a larger commitment from The Wonderful Company to support the communities where its employees live and work. As one of the largest employers in the Central Valley, The Wonderful Company has committed more than $1 billion in the region to date to drive key initiatives in education, health and wellness, community development, and sustainability.
Eligible 12th-grade students in each community will be contacted by their school administration and can expect to hear about their application status by mid-September.
